I am trying to set up the AirPort Express by getting it to join my existing WiFi network. The AirPort Express is running firmware 7.8.1. I have changed my Network settings to allow link-local only IPv6 on both the WiFi and Ethernet adapters. When I unplug the ethernet cable, it is not visible to anything, even the MacBook. The connection and setup works when I connect an Ethernet cable to the LAN port on the AirPort Express, but it is not visible to any of my devices except the MacBook used to configure it whilst connected with an ethernet cable.

I have had zero luck setting up wirelessly, getting “an unexpected error occurred” every time, but had more luck when connecting the AirPort Express to my mid-2012 MacBook Pro with an ethernet cable. Although Mountain Lion is very old I thought I’d give it a go as it is from the same time the AirPort was originally released. I have tried to set up over WiFi on my iPhone 12 Pro Max running iOS 14.8.1, 2017 12-inch MacBook running MacOS Monterey 12.4 and my mid-2012 13-inch MacBook Pro running both Mountain Lion 10.8.5 and High Sierra 10.13.6. I have spent hours trying to get the AirPort Express visible on my WiFi network but with no success.
